Camp Murray for Youth

Camp Murray for Youth

June 13-19, 2010

http://www.campmurray.org/

First Unitarian Church of Oklahoma City is sponsoring a youth camp again this year to be held June 13 – 19 at Lake Murray in Ardmore, Oklahoma.

Our goal is to provide a camp for youth age 14 – 18 that will encourage leadership, community, and exploration of UU identity. OKC has a long history of providing quality youth programming and is anxious to include youth from all over the Southwest District.

Our theme this year is "Exploring the Hundred Acre Wood!".  At camp we will have a wide array of activities, including social action, workshops and worship, to help you find what you're looking for.

For more information contact Ann McDermott ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) (adult) or Matt Christian ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) (youth).

This website will continue to be updated as we have new information and online registration will be available here.

FAQ for Camp Murray

FAQs about Camp Murray

How do I register?

Registration will be online. Must register before June 12. No walk-ins.

How much does it cost?

$200 if you register before June 1, $225 if registering between June 1 and June 12.

The fees have increased $25 this year because we are adding another day to our programming.

If at all possible, we would like for you to mail your registration fees in advance so that we will have operating funds.

What time do we need to get there? When do we leave?

Official check-in time is 5:00 pm on Sunday, June 13. Touch group leaders and staff need to be there by 2:00 PM. Camp is officially over at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 19.

How do I get there?

We are encouraging youth and adults to carpool. Work together with your parents and other youth in your area to make arrangements for transportation in advance. Youth are encouraged to not drive because you will be so exhausted on your way home. Please use this as a last resort and we must know that it is okay with your parents if you are under 18. We have a Driving Form that your parents must sign.

Who are the advisors?

Advisors are experienced adults from Oklahoma City and other churches in the Southwest District. All advisors must have references and will have a background check.

Is this a district sponsored camp?

No, this camp is sponsored by First Unitarian Church of Oklahoma City. We had great success with our previous camps and are looking forward to continuing our programming this summer.  Oklahoma City is still a strong supporter of district programming.

Will the Big Four still apply? Will smoking be permitted?

The Big Four will apply and smoking will not be permitted.  This is the same as last year.  See the Rules section.

How can I be a touch group leader?

Contact Ann McDermott or Matt Christian.

Can I lead a workshop?

Contact Ann McDermott.

Will there be a bridging ceremony?

Yes, we have been in contact with several young adults who would like to participate in this. This will be held on Friday, June 18th.
